Brick House Bakery is a new bakery based out of Harrodsburg, Indiana. Amity, the owner/baker got her start baking cookies and other sweets for a co-op in Fort Wayne. She took a hiatus from professional baking to earn her BA and two master’s degrees. If she wasn’t studying you could find her in the kitchen baking all sorts of treats. Shortly before COVID hit, Amity made her sourdough starter, “Betty.” Having sourdough and her garden helped Amity immensely during the pandemic, so she decided academia wasn’t for her, and she wanted to focus on making her dream of owning a bakery come true. Brick House Bakery is that dream come to fruition. It is a tiny cottage bakery now, but Amity hopes to grow it into a popular brick and mortar that makes “handcrafted bread for the everyday gourmet.”
"Because Brick House Bakery is a cottage microbakery we make everything in small batches, take the time to let fermentation work its magic, and use only the highest quality ingredients like Janie’s Mill flours (stone milled in Illinois). Amity is inspired by her time studying in Europe as well as her love of world cuisines. Her handcrafted breads blend old-world techniques with fun and unique flavors."
Brick House Bakery will be offering breads (mostly sourdough) and other baked treats. Visit them at the Bloomington Winter Farmers' Market this Saturday to taste Amity's special creations!
