Living Roots Farm

Woolery, Winter

Markets attending:

Michael Hicks started the market farm in 2004, and after much change and growth, the operation has evolved into what is Living Roots today. The market farm is one of the most successful and productive small, diversified farms in the region, harvesting about 100,000 lbs. of produce yearly on 5 acres. The farm doesn’t certify organic anymore but holds itself to even higher standards, including minimal fossil fuel inputs, regenerative and sustainable practices, and permaculture ideals. Much of the rest of the 75 acre farm is used to produce grass-fed beef, pastured pork, and free-range eggs. Our beef is 100% grass-fed. Our pork and eggs are some of the cleanest around, as our pigs and chickens are fed not only non-GMO grain, but also chemical-free grain. Living Roots operates a produce CSA 8 months out of the year and a meat and eggs CSA year-round. Living Roots grows extra to help those in need. Utilizing the Farm to Family program, we provided over $26,000 of produce to Mother Hubbard's Cupboard in 2020 alone. In addition to producing fresh, chemical-free food for Indiana residents, Living Roots operates an organic farm school, which has trained hundreds of apprentices and staff in organic farming/gardening, homesteading, natural building, and sustainable living since 2010.

Products offered: grass-fed beef, pastured pork, free range eggs, leafy greens, salad mix, Asian greens, roots, onions, garlic, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, melons, cucumbers, beans, sweet potatoes, squash, figs, raspberries, blackberries, pears, and much more (we grow over 300 varieties of produce).
